Let’s give them something to talk about! Starting the national conversation about the abuses of solitary confinement is a core part of our mission. It takes the will of the people to enact meaningful change. You can do your part by encouraging civil conversation around the topic.
Passing legislation that brings the United States into compliance with the Mandela Rules is the ultimate goal. The work begins and ends with the law, so advocating for and supporting legislation is crucial. But everyone can help, not just policy makers and attorneys.

Our partner, the New Jersey Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement won passage of the Isolated Confinement Restriction Act– -effectively outlawing solitary confinement in New Jersey. They made history as the first state to pass such sweeping legislation
